Fave Friday

Fifty and fabulous…need I say more? #ahem. When I came across this picture, I just knew I had to do a Fave Friday post in honor of Mr. Sexy aka Jon Bon Jovi. Isn’t it a sin to look this good in a towel? Dear God, I need some prayer. I guess Living on a Prayer will suffice.

I hope all the ladies (and the men who aren’t afraid to admit they used to crank up Bon Jovi) will join me in raising a glass to toast Jon. Happy Birthday, handsome. Thanks for all the music and here’s to many more years of not only rocking out to your tunes, but to looking at your fine a—um, yeah. The picture says it all.

Blog Tour de Troops

Welcome to the first stop in the final day of Blog Tour de Troops. Your last stop was at Lili Tufel's Blog the next stop on the tour will be at Gracen Miller's.

Today I am dedicating my post to the memory of Army Sgt. Dominic Sacco.

1st Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

On November 20th, 2005, my friend Lisa received the news at work that her brother Dominic had been killed in action.

Sgt. Sacco was a tank commander in the Army. On November 20th he had pushed himself through the hatch on his tank to check the perimeter in Taji, Iraq. While looking through his binoculars, a sniper caught him under his arm, where his body armor left him exposed.

What was your relationship like growing up?

Typical brother and sister relationship.  We bickered a lot, but got very close as adults.  Even though he was my little brother, he always took the role as my protector.

How has your family been affected by his loss?
My brother's son Anthony was only 3 months old when my brother was killed, so he didn't see any immediate affects as he was too young. Now he is 6 years old and really misses having his Dad around.  He tells us all the time that he wishes he could see him.  His step daughter Elyssa was 4 when he died, so she was still a little young to fully understand what was happening.  His wife Brandy is still coping with his death, and misses him terribly.  She sees him everyday in their son.

How was he honored for his service in the Army?
He received a purple heart and a bronze star.

What do you and your family do to remember him?

We do things like this to talk about how proud we are of him.  We also talk about him a lot to his son, so that he will know about his father.

What would you like everyone to know about your brother?

He was very outgoing and loved to have fun.  He was a fan of the NY Mets, Oakland Raiders and LA Lakers.  He loved his family very much.

If someone reading this experienced the loss of a loved one, what advice would you give?

Surround yourself with family and friends.  Nothing is worse than the first year.

If there was one word to describe your brother what would it be?

Hero.

Thank you Lisa for sharing your brother's memory with us. And thank you to all of the men and women who continue to risk their lives for us every day and to those that have fallen. May their sacrifice not be in vain.

Even though Veteran's Day has passed, let's not forget to take the time to stop someone in uniform and thank them for their selfless acts of bravery.

With the approach of the holidays, please find a way to donate a care package to a soldier. The simple things we take for granted are a treasure to them.

If you leave a comment on my blog today I will send you a pdf ARC of my book Full Body Contact which I co-authored with Cristyn West. I will also donate a copy to a soldier.

Don't forget to leave your email address so I know where to send your copy. If you know of an active duty or veteran service member who would also like a copy, be sure to include their email address as well.

One lucky commenter on the tour will also be entered to win a Kindle!

Battlefield Collection has generously donated a military jersey, winner's choice, for me to gift to a soldier.
If you'd like to donate money toward a Kindle for our soldiers, simply click here for secure donations via Paypal. Please note on your payment that it's a Troops donation.

Fave Friday

There are certain albums that I play over and over again on my iPod. Sometimes it drives my husband crazy...

Lifehouse is one of them.

Jason Wade's raspy voice enthralls me every time I hear it. In concert he's even better!

Lifehouse - Everything

This song is one of my absolute favorites. Perfect for writing those emotional scenes. What song speaks to you? Do you tend to play the same albums repeatedly? Or am I the only one?

Help! I See Dead People!

Woah!  Where am I?

I signed up for this Indie Book Collective blog tour called Masquerade, part of the Blog Tour de Force series.  Everything was fine until I just got kidnapped, blindfolded, and dumped here on Elena Gray’s blog.  It’s so dark here!  And #scary!  This place is so completely different from the blog I’m used to occupying.

Please help me get out of here.  When I was thrown into this dark place, I heard a gruff voice tell me that if I told anyone who I was that they would kill me.  Then they threw me a copy of Cristyn West and Elena Gray’s Widowmaker and told me it was the only entertainment I was allowed.

Entertainment?  THE BOOK IS CREEPING ME OUT!

A horror movie that is causing people to die?  Something so scary that people watching it are seizing, bleeding out of their eyes, and having heart attacks?  #GROSS!

It does not help that they haven’t given me any lights other than the moonlight coming through the trees.  I have to press my nose to the book to read it and I keep waiting for something to grab me and hurt me, either on this blog or from the book.  The writing is so good that it feels so real and it is not helping me deal with my situation very well… yet I keep reading it!

The docu-horror film inside the book is called Terror in the Trees.  Looking around at the skeletal trees here on the blog, I can’t help but wonder if they’ve only brought me here to make me the subject of Elena’s next paranormal book.

WHAT WAS THAT?

Something just moved over there.

Man, I don’t even like horror movies.  I really don’t want to be in one.  I’m used to a much different form of entertainment--one that uses the entire color spectrum and not just black, blacker, and blackest.  The worst part?  There’s no one here to listen to my #sarcasm and #snark!

I don’t do well on my own.  I’m a social person.  I like to make people laugh with my writing and with my tweets.  I like talking about fun, happy memories of childhood and childlike adults (or making fun of them!).  Also, I just stepped in something that ruined my #shoes.

This experience is NOT getting filed under “fun, happy memories!”

Please, help me.  Help me and you can help yourself too!

I overheard someone talking when they were transporting me here.  They said that every person who comments on this one post that I was allowed would receive a free copy of Elena Gray and Cristyn West’s Widowmaker.  I’m betting even if you leave the lights on, it’ll still freak you out.  They even said that Elena is putting together a gift basket to give away to one of the commenters.  If it’s a severed head, I’m going to be very upset.

Actually, she’s giving away a movie themed basket with a mystery DVD and all of the goodies you'll need to watch it.

On top of that, those crazy folks over at the Indie Book Collective are giving away a free Kindle to one participant over the course of the entire blog tour.

Ah, crap, someone’s coming.

The gruff voice just came and threw some more books at me.  They told me that I would be freed on Monday, October 24th but only if people can figure out who I am from my post will I be freed alive.  #gulp What kind of sick game are these people on about?!

I’m looking through these books.  The Demon Kiss by Lacey Weatherford? Sadistic evil mirrored with elements of love and epic quests.  Soul Search by Amber Scott is an animalistic story about a guy whose soul is split with that of a wolf.  Most of these books seem just as terrifying as Widowmaker!  I’ll settle on Ann Charles’s Dance of the Winnebagos, at least I caught references to Mighty Mouse, Miami Vice, and CSI early on… it appeals to my pop-culture fandom.

Are you still there?

Please, help me get out of here.  These twisted game-players want you to guess who I am from the list of 12 authors signed up to this freaky blog tour.  I tried to give you clues the brutes that threw me here may not catch.  Comment below with your guess.  Elena will email you details for your free copy of Widowmaker so make sure you leave your email address!

It’s up to you to get me out of here alive on Monday!  For sake of conversation, how about you also share with me your favorite horror movie?  I need to have something to do to keep me busy until Monday, when I am released… dead or alive.

Prophecy Tour Final Day: Author Love

Welcome one and all to our PROPHECY TOUR, 2011! Gracen Miller, Deena Remiel, and I have teamed up to bring you three days of fascinating fun at all three of our websites. There's in-depth discussion of our craft, paranormal chit-chat, and promotions galore!

So, how does this work? All YOU need to do is read our posts and follow each day's rules to win prizes! At the end of each post are links to each of us that you can click on and follow. We hope you have fun, learn a bit more about us, and enjoy your experience. PROPHECY SAYS YOU WILL, SO WE SAY, GO WITH IT!

Today is the final day of our tour and it's all about showing some author love!  I was a fan of Deena and Gracen before I became a friend.  I was following both of their prequels on their blogs and eagerly awaiting the release of their books.  After many chats on FB a friendship was born!

I am so fortunate to have these two fabulous women in my life!  As a newbie writer, they are always available to offer me advice...and I gladly accept it!

First off I have to tell you that you will find yourself stalking Deena after reading Trinity.  Her angels are hot!  My only complaint is that I have to wait for Relic!  She can't write fast enough for me.

Angels are among us and they are here to battle evil and save our souls.

3 Protectors, 3 Warriors and 3 Saviors have manifested on earth.  They are known as the Brethren.  Whew...fanning myself just thinking about them! Grab a copy of Brethren Beginnings (you can see my review HERE) for an introduction to 3 of her other steamy angels.

Trinity is Michael's story.  He's one of the Protectors.  Michael is sent to help Emma and her daughter Hannah battle evil.  This book is beautifully written and will draw you in from start to finish.  I was up until the wee hours of the morning reading this.

Head to Gracen's blog and start reading her Life Lessons.  If that doesn't convince you to run out and buy Pandora's Box, then you're going to miss out on a terrifying read!

Madison is a kick ass Mom who will do anything to protect her son.  Even if it means going up against the King of Hell!

Pandora's Box is a crazy ride that you won't want to get off!

This is the first Horromance that I've read and I love how it goes from gory to sexy without ruining the flow.  One minute I was saying "that's gross" and the next I was saying "that's hot".

When's the release date for Hell's Phoenix (Book 2) Gracen?  I need to know what happens next! Running off to stalk her!
